Apple Mind Fined $1.2 M in Italy Related to AppleCare Warranty

Apple is rumored planning to appeal the decision Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato that Apple penalize as much as U.S. $ 1.2 million for failing to offer a 2 year warranty as required in the rules of EU law and the Italian Consumer Code. Plan for filing an objection is confirmed to The Register by Apple’s PR staff.

As known, in earlier this week the Italian government’s antitrust has been penalize Apple Inc.., Apple Sales International, and Apple Retail Italy at U.S. $ 1.2 million due to improper advertising practices that harm consumers. Italian authorities are Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato claiming that Apple does not implement the 2-year product warranty which shall be provided to all consumers under EU law. Apple AppleCare warranty is only offered to consumers without mentioning the right of consumers over the two-year warranty.

Parties Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato asking Apple to stop the practice of warranty policy that is currently applied and notify the authorities about the plan to be done about it. They also asked Apple to publish the new policy clarification on the Apple.com is intended to inform consumers of this change.

Not yet known whether the authorities in other regions of the European Union will run a similar action. But now Apple is being accused by the European Antritrust Commission for committing an illegal practice or agreement which would burden or affect and hinder competition in the EU or the EEA-related businesses that run Apple’s iBooks.
